The past two decades have seen a rapid expansion of alternative and innovative methods used for the cultivation of shellfish and finfish. To work best, many of these approaches require proper site selection to minimize their environment impact.
Staff members at Blue Hill Hydraulics are working with commercial growers, in the United States and abroad, to develop state-of-the-art data aquistion and modeling techniques designed to improve site selection techniqies used by the industry. Much of this work has been funded by commercial growers with added support from the USDA, NOAA, the British Columbia Shellfish Growers Association, and the Irish Shellfish Association.
During the 2005 calendar year, field studies are planned in Chesapeake Bay, Long Island Sound, Puget Sound and in Ireland.
